In 2022, I chauffeured a couple for their wedding, an experience I later wrote about in “Rainy Ride.” As is often the case, certain details stayed with me long after the day was over. This time, it wasn’t just the couple or the weather, it was the pickup location itself.
Mangiamo’s immediately struck me with its timeless art deco character. There was something enduring about the place, the kind of atmosphere that feels both elegant and welcoming. Discovering a gem like that is one of the understated pleasures of being a chauffeur.
Over time, that first impression lingered. It inspired me to seek out and experience the local treasures I’m fortunate enough to encounter through my work. When our anniversary approached, I knew exactly where I wanted to take my wife, Emily.
Our evening at Mangiamo’s was perfectly splendid. The ambiance felt just as timeless as I remembered, and the experience was capped off with a personalized dessert: a yule log prepared for the occasion. Watching Emily enjoy the experience was a moment I’ll always associate with that place.
One of the rewards of being a chauffeur is how often this work reveals intentional moments: where people gather, celebrate, and slow down to mark what matters. Discovering places like Mangiamo’s reminds me that sharing the occasion, whether with newlyweds or an anniversary date with my own wife is a reward.
